Dr. Manoj Soni was born on February 17, 1965, in Mumbai. When he was in 5th grade, his father passed away. To help his family and pay for school, he sold incense sticks in Mumbai’s neighborhoods. He was the Vice-Chancellor of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda) from 2005 to 2008, becoming the youngest person in India to hold this position at age 40. He also served two terms as Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) from 2009 to 2015.

Dr. Soni has been acknowledged for his work in education and public administration. In 2015, he received the World Education Congress Global Award for Distance Learning Leadership from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in London, UK.
