When announcing the plan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “Chardham Yatra, Mata Vaishnavi Yatra, and Amarnath Yatra are important holy places in Hinduism. Many senior citizens dream of visiting these places at least once in their lives. But often, poor citizens can’t visit these places. The state government has started this plan to help many senior citizens visit these holy places, especially those who couldn’t go because of money problems or lack of information.”

Senior citizens of all religions in Maharashtra will have the chance to visit important pilgrimage sites across India for free under the Chief Minister’s Tirtha Darshan Yojana. This initiative aims to provide mental peace and spiritual fulfillment to elderly residents.

The scheme covers major pilgrimage destinations both within Maharashtra and across the country. Eligible individuals can avail a one-time benefit to visit one designated pilgrimage site, with travel expenses capped at Rs. 30,000 per person. This includes costs for travel, meals, and accommodation. To qualify, beneficiaries must have an annual income below Rs. 2,50,000 and be sixty years or older residents of Maharashtra.

Selection of Beneficiaries Under This Scheme

The selection of travelers for Mukhyamantri Tirtha Darshan Yojana will be handled by district-level committees. Here’s how it will work:

  1. Each district will have a set number of spots for trips to different destinations, adjusted based on the district’s population and the number of applicants. Travelers will be chosen through a random draw (using a computer), if there are more applications than spots. A waitlist will also be made for an additional 100% of the spots.
  2. If a selected traveler can’t go, someone from the waitlist might get the chance.
  3. The list of selected travelers and the waitlist will be posted on the department’s website, at the Collector’s office, the Assistant Commissioner’s office of the Social Welfare Department, and other places as needed.
  4. Only the selected person can go on the pilgrimage; they can’t take anyone else.
  5. If a husband and wife apply separately and one gets chosen but the other doesn’t, the Social Welfare Commissionerate in Pune will decide if the other can still go on the trip.”

You can apply for the Mukhyamantri Tirtha Darshan Yojana online through a Portal, Mobile App, or Setu Suvidha Kendra. Here’s how:

  1. Senior citizens eligible for this scheme can apply online.
  2. If you can’t apply online, you can fill out the form at a Setu Kendra.
  3. Applying is completely free of charge.
  4. You need to visit the Kendra in person for a live photograph and KYC. Bring:
    1. Your family’s complete Identity Card (like Ration Card)
    2. Your Aadhaar Card”
