Deepika Kumari was born on June 13, 1994, in Ratu Chatti, Ranchi, Bihar (now Jharkhand), India. She comes from a poor family; her father, Shivnarayan Mahato, drives an auto-rickshaw, and her mother, Geeta Mahato, works as a nurse at Ranchi Medical College.
